What a gorgeous cathedral. I wanted to get more pictures but they cut the lights out on us. Oh well, this at least gives you a taste of what it's like!
Day 3
We left this morning about 8. No sense leaving earlier when it's still dark, plus it's cold enough at 8! There has been frost on the fields every morning and yet I still see people wearing shorts! I just don't get it. About 11am today I peeled off the first layer, my super nice rain coat. It keeps the warmth in so well there's actually wetness INSIDE from the condensation of my body heat it's holding in! (Thanks to the Ripplingers and Eric for getting me the great raincoat!)
Anyway, today's hike was about half in the woods and it was lovely.
We attempted to keep a quick pace the first half of the day because we knew we'd slow down considerably in the afternoon because of our feet. We also waited to pray the Rosary until the worst part of the day, haha. And today steep downhill was way worse than steep uphill.
We passed through a few little villages on our way.
And here is the bridge built in the 1200s which is the entry into Pamplona. The cross has a statue of St. James as a marker and a welcome to the pilgrims.
It took us a while to find our albergue (hostel for the pilgrims) because we got a little lost. Thank God we didn't get too far off track! We're staying at Jesus y Maria Albergue. It was a Church built in the 16th century that is now used to house pilgrims.
It's really neat inside. They have converted the side aisles to sleeping areas with bunk beds, left the center open to use for various exhibits, and kept the original ceiling.
Okay, that's it for day 3! We're to Mass at the cathedral right now!
Oh, and for those of you interested in the condition of my feet... Here's what "threading" blisters looks like.
P.S. Today I'm thankful for Sunday Mass at the beautiful cathedral and I learned I need a better guidebook.
