Molinaseca to Cacabelos
23km/14miles
Another rainy and cold morning. It was supposed to rain all day but lucky for us it just sprinkled about half the day.
Here's the church and the castle in Ponferrada.
Emily tried out the churros and chocolate. We'll compare it to churros and chocolate in Santiago!
Sarah joined us for the day. We ended in Cacabelos and Sarah went on to a small village albergue about a kilometer ahead. I'm sure we will run into her again soon.
We stayed in Cacabelos because we thought it would be a better chance of getting to Mass.
First we were told Mass would be in the cemetery because of the feast day. Then another person told us there is no Mass. Since the cemetery is a km outside of town and it was cold and raining we were not looking forward to it. We walked by the Church and were happy to see the doors were open and people were going in! Mass was in the Church after all, thankfully, and it was PACKED with people!
After Mass we searched for a good place to eat and it was difficult. Finally we happened along a great pizzeria and cafeteria where we could order just what we want instead of the whole pilgrim meal. We sat talking for a while at the restaurant because we didn't want to go home to our albergue without heat!
Here's Emily in bed and cold at the albergue.
That's about all for today! I wish I had better pictures but with the weather the way it is it's difficult to get good pictures.
I'm thankful it didn't rain all day, and I'm thankful for Sarah's company, and I'm especially thankful we were able to get to Mass.
I am learning more about people, and therefore I'm learning more about myself.
Oh! And I'm thankful we have 9 days left!!!
