Day 24

Cacabelos to Ruitelan
27km/17miles

Today was pretty miserable.  It rained the whole day, and I mean the WHOLE day.  I put my hood down for two minutes and then had to put it back up again.  The morning wasn't so bad for the first hour or so, but then it was raining so hard our pants were soaked.  The water flowed down our legs and into our boots.  The last 20 km it felt like there was about a cup of water inside my boots.

We decided it wasn't smart to walk with such wet feet so at the next village we would inquire about a bus.  A local woman said it was 2km further.  Later we checked the map and it was actually 4.3.  Getting a bus didn't work out so well but the next village was only 6km so we figured we are already miserable so 6km won't make that much difference.  We got to that town and one albergue was full and the other was closed.  The next albergue was only 3.8km away, so we went on.

Guess what, that albergue was full also!  But the next village was only 4 more kilometers away!  GREAT!
We arrived at an albergue that actually had beds for us... but they didn't have a dryer, and there's no way our clothes will dry by the morning.  The hostess called the albergue up the road that she knows has a washer and dryer and checked that they still had room.  She gave them our names and off we went.  She told us it was only 1km but of course it was 2.

So that was my day, only 4km more... only 6km more... only 3.8km more... only 3km more... only 2km more.  Walking 27km soaking wet is never fun, but hey, that's life.  It was a good day to sacrifice for the souls in purgatory.  It is All Souls Day after all!

Tonight we got hot showers followed by a yummy family dinner with 14 other pilgrims.  Tomorrow was supposed to be rain showers all day again, but someone just checked the weather and now it's calling for SUN!  I suppose we got the two days of rain all in one day!

I'm learning I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me.

I'm thankful for hot showers, for Jenny's iPod, that tomorrow will be sunny, and that I only have 8 days left!!!

You know it's crazy that 8 days seems so little, but if I were going on an 8 day hiking trip at home I'd think of it as a big trip!  Well, I would've thought of it as a big trip before the Camino!
